In Germany, the project is deepening a thought process that has been ongoing since 2018 about the relationship between villagers and nature. To this end, artist Antje Majewski was commissioned to use this as a connecting element for the village community and to design an artistic project with which the village can shape its coexistence in a sustainable way. A mosaic image, which she developed together with the citizens, has already been implemented. It is to be integrated into a pavilion with a photovoltaic system, which offers space for flexible events and is surrounded by a community garden.

With ‘Repair the Land’, the village has been responding to climate change since spring 2025 and how the rapid changes are reflected in its own village gardens. These are experienced as places of resistance and knowledge production. Following the model of art on behalf of citizens, a group of citizens is now working on a commission that takes into account the conditions and necessities of a community garden in times of climate change, while exploiting its potential for open exchange in the conflict-ridden village.

The group discusses how a community garden can deal with the consequences of climate change, what role it can play in relation to the community, and how it should be designed so that the knowledge of the villagers is visible in it.

At the first meeting with a group of villagers, it became clear that they would like to focus their activities on the garden behind the village community centre. However, as the municipality has been in a legal dispute with the association that leases the village hall and part of the land for some time, it was necessary to obtain planning security first. The mediator therefore presented the project at a public community meeting, attended a local council meeting and, together with the mayor, drafted a resolution that makes the community's garden plot available to the group for consideration within the framework of „‘Repair the Land’“. This was successful and the group is now considering its commission, which centres on a community garden.

Was die Menschen im Dorf miteinander verbindet ist die Natur

In Deutschland vertieft das Projekt einen seit 2018 laufenden Denkprozess über das Verhältnis der Dorfbewohnerinnen zur Natur. Dazu wurde schon vorher ein Auftrag an die Künstlerin Antje Majewski erteilt, diese als verbindendes Element der Dorfgemeinschaft einzusetzen und ein künstlerisches Projekt zu entwerfen, mit dem das Dorf nachhaltig sein Zusammenleben gestalten kann. Ein Mosaikbild, das sie gemeinsam mit den Bürgerinnen entwickelt hat, wurde schon umgesetzt. Es soll in einen Pavillon mit Photovoltaikanlage integriert werden, der Raum für flexible Veranstaltungen bietet und von einem Gemeinschaftsgarten umgeben ist.

Mit „Repair the Land“ reagiert das Dorf nun seit Frühjahr 2025 auf den Klimawandel und wie sich die rasanten Veränderungen in den eigenen Dorfgärten spiegeln. Diese werden als Orte des Widerstands und der Wissensproduktion erlebt. Nach dem Handlungsmodell der Kunst im Bürgerauftrag arbeitet eine Gruppe von Bürger*innen nun an einem Auftrag, der die Bedingungen und Notwendigkeiten eines Gemeinschaftsgartens in Zeiten des Klimawandels berücksichtigt und dabei dessen Potential für einen offenen Austausch in dem von Konflikten geprägten Dorf nutzt.

Die Gruppe diskutiert, wie ein Gemeinschaftsgarten mit den Folgen des Klimawandel umgehen kann, welche Rolle er in Bezug auf die Gemeinschaft übernehmen kann und wie er gestaltet sein soll, damit das Wissen der Dorfbewohner*innen darin sichtbar wird.

Auf dem ersten Treffen mit einer Gruppe von Dorfbewohnerinnen wurde klar, dass sie ihre Aktivitäten gerne auf den Garten hinter dem Dorfgemeinschaftshaus richten würden. Da jedoch die Gemeinde seit einiger Zeit im Rechtsstreit mit dem Verein liegt, der das Dorfhaus mit einem Teil des Grundstücks gepachtet, wurde es notwendig vorerst Planungssicherheit zu erlangen. Darum hat die Mediatorin das Vorhaben auf einer öffentlichen Gemeindeversammlung vorgestellt, eine Sitzung des Gemeinderats besucht und gemeinsam mit dem Bürgermeister eine Beschlussvorlage erstellt, die der Auftraggebergruppe das Gartengrundstück der Gemeinde für Überlegungen im Rahmen von ‘Repair the Land’ zur Verfügung stellt. Dies war erfolgreich und nun denkt die Gruppe über ihren Auftrag nach, in dessen Zentrum ein Gemeinschaftsgarten steht
