Montes de Couso

The Couso community focuses its role on turning the communally owned woodland into a multifunctional asset and an inexhaustible source of natural resources, in order to increase the area’s environmental value and make it more hospitable to native tree species. Montes de Couso commoners are pioneers in alternative mountain produce: raspberries, blueberries, currents, chestnuts, and shiitake mushrooms. Montes de Couso has been recognised as an example of good management by inclusion in the United Nation’s ICCA Registry, and it has also received the IRGADE award for the promotion of the Galician language.
